Honey BeeOur Honey Bee Apiary (bee hives) is inside a secure, electrified bear-proof enclosure. Following the principles and standards of organic beekeeping, our ranch is a pesticide-free zone, and our Bee colonies shall be chemical and drug-free unless directed otherwise for the health of the bees. Being kept as naturally and humanely as possible, our honey bees are pollinators and produce great-tasting natural honey from Clover, Wildflowers, our fruit trees, grapes and berry bushes.
We started with two and now have four hives.
<> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> Benefits of Honey Bees
Have you ever heard the term, "Busy as a Bee?" If you take the time to watch bees as they fly from flower to flower to flower, collecting nectar and pollen, then back to the hive, you will know what it means. Worker Bees (female bees) make many trips each day, visiting several thousand flowers up to five miles or more from the hive.
Bees are known as pollinators and are very beneficial. While visiting each flower, some pollen sticks to the tiny hairs on a bee's body, then rubs off and pollinates that flower. The pollen collected from the previous flower sometimes rubs off their body and cross-pollinates. This pollination and cross-pollination is required; some flowers, fruits, vegetables and certain crops won't be produced without it.
Bee with pollenSeveral different species of insects produce honey, but bees are the best known and the only insect that produces honey that most people eat. They create honey from the nectar and pollen collected from each flower and plant they visit. The beekeeper then harvests the honey and Beeswax honeycomb. However, enough honey (80 to 100 pounds) must be left in the hive for the Bees to eat when flowers aren't blooming and during winter.
Honey is a sweetener in food and drink, on deserts and other items instead of sugar. It's all-natural, healthier than sugar and tastes much better. Honey is considered "Kosher" for those following the dietary laws of kashrut (kashruth or kashrus).
